The Elachee Nature Center is a great place to go for a hike during any part of the year. There are short trails that are under 1 mile, and long trails that go up to about 7 miles at all types of elevations. There is even a handicap accessible paved trail - which is really cool!
The nature trails are great! They have beginners loops all the way up to really rigorous ones that stretch many miles with tough climbing switchbacks. The volunteer armada there are dedicated and very aware. Always diverging trails for erosion purposes and keeping the trails clean and clear. These are primitive trails so single file works best. Also there are suspension bridges and other narrow parts so show that trail etiquette and yield to traffic.
I hikes the 4.5 mile lakes trails. Nice shaded trail. Well marked blazes. Watch our for spider webs. Not many mosquito, even in the summer. The lake has fish and turtles of all sizes. The trail has cool lizards, frogs, snails, and mushrooms.
I have never been inside the science building, but I have heard good things, but i most often come here to take a nice calming hike!
They go out of their way to make sure the kids have a fun experience as well as learning something...my kids love their hands=on way of teaching...the gift shop is a little pricey, but that's the norm for this kind of business...
